Scriptures ref.

Location:
Caesarea Philippi
Description:
The rock bluff at Caesarea Philippi where Greeks worshiped the God Pan (hence the name, "Panias/Banias"). It is likely that Jesus used this backdrop for his announcement, ". . on this rock I will build My church" (Matt 16:18).

Caesarea Philippi
Description:
The rock face at Caesarea Philippi, the probable scene of Jesus' announcements to his disciples (Matt 16:13-28). Niches in the rock accommodated pagan idols. The Banias stream, flowing from Mount Hermon, emerges here to become one of the sources of the Jordan River.
