Location: Beth-shemesh Description: Looking westward from Beth-shemesh down the Sorek Valley toward Timnah. From his home at nearby Zorah to the northeast, Samson easily crossed into Philistine-controlled territory half way down the valley to find a bride in Timnah (Judg 14). It was up this valley that the Philistines later sent the ark on a cart from Ekron where it had caused a plague (1 Sam 6). // Photo by Terry C. Hulbert |

Location: Beth-shemesh Description: Looking westward down the Sorek Valley from Beth-shemesh. The gentle slope of the hills westward is typical of the Shephelah, the transition region between the hill country of Judah and the coastal plain. Zorah, Samson's home, was located three miles northeast of Beth-shemesh, over the hill to the right (off the picture). // Photo by Terry C. Hulbert |
